Longer cycles govern our lives, passages from days to nights, the seasons, cycles of life and death. In the past, we did not have watches and took the <a class=\"lightbox_trigger\" href=\"#\" data-description=\"To talk about the notion of \u201ctaking the time necessary for each activity\u201d, I expressed \u201cwe work well, meticulously and thoroughly when we undertake something\u201d.\">necessary time<\/a> for each activity. Traveling with young children took longer; we would set up camp wherever we stopped. This is what many call <a class=\"lightbox_trigger\" href=\"#\" data-description=\"We don\u2019t have a concept to convey \u201cIndian time\u201d in the Abenaki language; it's a concept that comes from white people.\">Indian time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This notion of time seen as a <a class=\"lightbox_trigger\" href=\"#\" data-description=\"To convey this notion of time as a continuous movement, of time that never stops, I used the image of \u201cfire that keeps burning\u201d.\">Continuous movement<\/a>, long and slow, sometimes creates a difficult convergence between our respective cultures. While modern life seeks to control through addition and subtraction, we are time, we drift with it. All of our myths express a vision of a world to be shared where everything is connected and basks in universal time where the past, present and future are intertwined, since everything that happens, even the smallest elements of this world has an impact on the others: from the explosion of a <a class=\"lightbox_trigger\" href=\"#\" data-description=\"I was unable to find such a concept in the Abenaki language; I expressed it as the \u201cdestructive house of the sun\u201d, wagalokagek kizosigamikw.\">nuclear reactor<\/a> in Japan, so far, to the local <a class=\"lightbox_trigger\" href=\"#\" data-description=\"I was unable to find such a concept in the Abenaki language; I expressed the notion of \u201cmine\u201d as a \u201cdeeply dug house\u201d.\">mining operations<\/a>, so near, the impacts will affect several generations, seven according to our philosophies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IT&#8217;S ABOUT TIME &nbsp; We do not believe that we possess time; we do not divide it into units called seconds, minutes and hours.
