What matters to us is the survival of the spirit which depends on family members who must look after the spirit of the dead, through the bonds created by the drum.<\/p>\n<p>The use of this instrument requires special respect, demands a seriousness and thereby, bears in its symbolism purity and the centrality of relationships that bind us to other beings, to the world and to spirits. We are reclaiming this organ which is the drum to stay alive; we strike its membrane so that the meanings of our <a class=\"lightbox_trigger\" href=\"#\" data-description=\"When I think about the boomerang in Australia, it's a specific angle on a specific build, and there's no way that some Aboriginal walking by the river and some driftwood would show up in the same design, took this driftwood, threw it out and it came back to him. To me, it's a design that came through a dream, something whispered to that person, they built it, and they worked on it, and then it worked. They were built to work. I just can't believe that it was half hazard. I think language comes from a dream also; it's a gift.\">dreams<\/a> finally become understandable again through the chaos of this era.<\/p>\n<p>Many are fighting for the repatriation of our ancestors\u2019 bones preserved in museums or universities.
